V-J Day Remembered
Victory over Japan Day (also known as Victory in the
Pacific Day, V-J Day, or V-P Day) is a name chosen for the day on
which the Surrender of Japan occurred, effectively ending World War
II. In Washington on August 14, 1945, President Harry S. Truman
announced news of Japan's surrender in a press conference at the
White House: "This is the day we have been waiting for since Pearl
Harbor. This is the day when Fascism finally dies, as we always knew
it would."

This year on Sunday, August 21st, the Alabama Veterans
Museum will honor and pay special tribute to the Veterans of World
War II with a remembrance ceremony. Tickets will go on sale Monday,
July 18th at the Museum and at the Senior Center for $10.00 each for
the 2:PM show. Tickets are limited and there will be only one show,
(last year's show sold out during the pre-sale.)
Buy chance to win the 11x14 "New York Kiss"
oil painting by Karen Middleton. Tickets are now on sale now
for $5.00 - all proceeds benefit the Veterans Museum.
